Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. Wiktionary is a wiki, which means that you can edit it, and all the content is dual-licensed under both the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License as well as the GNU Free Documentation License. Life extension, also known as anti-aging medicine, experimental gerontology, and biomedical gerontology, refers to attempts to slow down or reverse the processes of aging to extend both the maximum and average lifespan. Some researchers in this area, and "life extensionists" or "longevists" (who wish to achieve longer lives for themselves), believe that future breakthroughs in tissue rejuvenation with stem cells, molecular repair, and organ replacement (such as with artificial organs or xenotransplantations) will eventually enable humans to have indefinite lifespans through complete rejuvenation to a youthful condition. The sale of putative anti-aging products such as nutrition, physical fitness, skin care, hormone replacements, vitamins, supplements and herbs has become a lucrative industry, with the US market generating about $50 billion of revenue each year. Medical experts state that the use of such products has not been shown to affect the aging process, and many claims of anti-aging medicine advocates have been roundly criticized by medical experts, including the American Medical Association. Bioethicists question whether and how the human lifespan should be extended. From Wikipedia under the

This is a serious question, and serious answers only please. I am NOT asking the details or your specific plans, but how many have tried or have plans to try to achieve life extension? I mean like try to live till 120 years (say)? And with good health? If you want, share the route you plan to take without giving out details. For example, one could say taking anti-oxidants. Or genetic engineering. I am aware that the category I am posting it in may not reach everyone, but this is the category I could find. Or is it really a prolonging of the inevitable? Q. I mean everyone is going to die at some point in time. No matter the action taken death is certain in the end. So can anyone claim to have saved a life? When I had CABG done last year, was my life saved or did the doctors only extend my life by an unknown length of time? Since no one can say when or what the cause of my death will be was any change made at all? Are we lying to ourselves with the phrase "life saving"? Should we really call it "life extension", "putting of death" or maybe just "life quality improvement"? Or is it just wishful thinking? These are philosophical questions I know. I just wanted some other thoughts. It seems that some took my question in a way I didn't intend. Sounds as though you are a bit down today, sorry to hear that. Personally, I feel that when you had your surgery last year your life was saved and prolonged all at the same time. If you had not have had the surgery you would have probably died sooner than you should have. Yes, as you know, we will all die sooner or later and I am not afraid to die, but I do want to be around as long as I can for my family and myself. Death is inevitable. But that does not mean that we should not try to take care of our health and try to prolong our lives and make the best with what we have. I call it all of the above you said, life saving, life extension, putting off death for a little while longer, and life quality improvement. We all… [cont.] Answered by Wendy C - Sat Jul 28 14:45:40 2007 Life Extension Technology Magazines?
