What are your predictions for hurricanes this year?
Q. The weather intrigues me and find it fascinating. I've been following storm tracks since I was a kid. If there are any others like myself, what are your predictions for hurricanes this year?

A. Using a principle I invented called "The Zero Sum Effect", I'd first look at areas in Hurricane Alley that are under moderate to severe drought. As this picture shows... ...areas around Alabama are under a severe drought. So, my first prediction is that a Cat 3 hurricane will hit somewhere between Biloxi, MS and Mobile, AL. The hurricane will travel northward and its rains will aid in that area's drought. Florida also is under moderate drought. It would not surprise me to see a hurricane come ashore between Ft. Lauderdale and Daytona Beach. I'm also concerned about how warm water has breached past Cape Hatteras. Normally cold water from the North Atlantic keeps the Gulf Stream at bay. This leakage of warm water, shown here: ...put [cont.]

Q. What information would you use to make predictions about the economic demands and probable settlement for a particular union-management negotiation?
Asked by Mike - Fri Jan 7 20:47:27 2011 - Economics - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Outcome of pattern bargaining strategies, whether I am the first in a pattern cycle, my cost of walking away and establishing a plant in a less union friendly political environment like Georgia or Mexico, my marketing projections, and my contract delivery flexibility for my supply chain infrastructure. My inventory of finished goods in case of strike is important. That is just for starters. Key points to consider are whare will the union walk away, where will you walk away, and what can you agree on. There is usually an overlap of his low end and your high end, and your job is to find it and produce agreements.

What are the predictions as to when the Los Angeles Times newspaper will stop publishing?
Q. Have any knowledgeable business people or "inside" publications made predictions as to how much more longer the Los Angeles Times newspaper will continue being published? It seems the Times is growing thinner by the week. What are the predications about the newspaper's survival, considering current trends in the newspaper business?

A. From I have read, Zell should seriously consider selling the LA Times (like he did w/ Newsday) to other local billionaires (David Geffen and Eli Broad) among others. Recently, the LA Times is becoming more of a 50-50 ad content ratio paper (as you have found out for yourself). Right now, Google news is still accessing LA Times content where people can access the LA Times articles online (I do, although I don't live in the LA area). I hadn't found a specific timeline as to how long the LA Times will continue to be published. I got a feeling the paper will survive (it is the second biggest paper in the Tribune family behind the Chicago Tribune - its failure will be a huge ego blow to Zell), but it will not prosper in this economy and until… [cont.]

For instancew 9/11 could of been planned by them due to this to cause ruckas with the rest of his predictions, but what are your opinions on the 2012 prediction? Frauds have been predicting the end of the world for centuries using Gregorian calendar cycles, e.g. at 1000 and 2000 A.D., there were such predictions. A. Many very primitive societies (at least by our standard of primitiveness) had very accurate calendars. They had a priesthood who were able to make observations of the sky every night and they could accumulate these observations for decades, for generations. Sooner or later someone would figure out how to use them to predict the seasons. In agricultural socieities, an accurate calendar is often a very valuable thing to have. The Egyptian civilization, for instance, was built around the agriculturally rich Nile valley. The farmers found it very useful to know when each year the river would overflow its banks, signalling the beginning of planting season. So they also developed a very accurate calendar. Plus, there is a certain time of year… [cont.]

Where can I get a copy of the ESPN predictions for the MLB playoffs?
Q. I'm interested in knowing what the crew said, as of October 1 this year. I believe it's customary every year for the analysts to make predictions regarding the outcomes of the various matchups in the division series, league championship series, and world series. In fact, they even predict the MVPs. Where is the 2010 edition? I'd like to know how they match up with the actual results, so far.

A. Here are their "expert" predictions from before the postseason: Only one person predicted the Rangers would be in the World Series, while two predicted the Giants would be in the World Series. No one predicted a Rangers-Giants World Series, though.

While there is much overlap between prediction and forecast, a prediction may be a statement that some outcome is expected, while a forecast may cover a range of possible outcomes.
